Crookram - Through Windows

Reliable like a clockwork Budabeats strikes with new releases. This time Crookram presents an even more convincing and versatile album than he did with his first release: "Through Windows" is an entertaining and mature compilation consisting of 19 unique tracks.

My definite favourites are #5 Bij De Rest and #17 Sun. You just have to love that chilling beat mixed with foreign samples.

It sometimes even reminds me of Zero7. If only there was more of this budabeat greatness...

...wait - THERE IS!

Open Clip Art Library goes 2.0

The Open Clip Art Library went live with their shiny new front-end finally! The new preview function hugely boosts the usability and the straight forward download buttons are great.

I can just encourage everybody to have a look at the huge compilation of freely available material hosted at openclipart.org.

But you can also use it in other ways:

  • you can import and search directly through Inkscape - go to "file -> import from OCAL" (works on ubuntu)
  • you can download the thing as one big package

Also consider to upload your own stuff!

rockthe.Biz

rockthe.Biz is a well made documentary about the current state of the music business. It is divided into 11 Chapters and provides interesting and useful information about what is happening and what can be done.

I recommend it to people that are really into music and want to make money with it. Unfortunately it is not clear how the documentation is licensed It is released under the creative commons and only available in flash, but there are direct download links. And there is VLC.

LGM 2010

Creative developers and users meet again. This year will be 27-30 May in Brussels! You can expect developers from all the well known free and creative software projects (like GIMP, Blender, Scribus and Inkscape), as well as lots and lots of interesting people and other interesting projects.

If you have the time to come by - do so! If you don't want to support the event with your presence maybe you consider a different way of support.

Unfortunately I can't attend the meeting and count on the good people that record all the talks.

Cloud - then what?

Rumor has it that the web has no future - but it IS the future. The FSF likes to think about cloud computing as a "nexus of confusion". But Jon Phillips spends some serious thought about the freedom of our future environment in his last LGM talk and comes to another conclusion (despite critical voices):

The web as an operating system is starting to become reality so we better start working on a free version of it now!

Fortunately there isn't just the pressure on fighting for freedom, there is also the huge possibility to finally boost collaboration and integrate more people in common efforts.
