Version 0.9.12 just has been released!, but unfortunately the gnu/linux binaries are not yet available.
The new release has many small and one big new feature: Zoom!
You can now seamlessly zoom in and out in order to execute your mercy-less attacks more precisely!
I'm also honored that my contribution (the new "compost" theme) is included in this new release.
Here is a list what else has changed:
- Control pad support
- New weapons: flying saucer, molotov cocktail
- More sounds
- New visual effects
- Updated graphics
- Team chat
- Remember net password
- More training modes, including a fun RC plane game
- Implement room control delegation when host's connection fails
- Colorize chat events in engine
- Frontend improvements
- New maps
- New theme

Europe is about to vote about Net Neutrality very soon. Contact your representative and make him aware of your position on that. Voters in Brussels need some non-lobby input to vote right! If you're living in Germany there is a blog that informs and advises, and even provides contact information for relevant people.
A free culture needs a free net.
Time for Wikia Search
Sat, 2009-03-21
UPDATE
Unfortunately wikia search did shut down. If you want to reset your standard search use this string: http://www.google.com/search?ie=UTF-8&oe= UTF-8&sourceid=navclient&gfns=1&q=
Thinking that google is getting too much power? - An alternative is within reach: Wikia Search. It may not be the complete replacement for all other search engines, but it's good enough for day to day searches. Here is how Firefox uses it as the standard address bar search (a feature I use a lot!):
- visit "about:config" to get all preferences of FF
- filter the huge list with "keyword"
- double click the "keyword.URL" preference
- enter "http://search.wikia.com/search.html#" as value, overwriting the long google entry
Now typing things like "pancake recipe" will send you to a wikia search result - instead of a google one.
If you like Wikia Search - you can help by adding/editing/rating results, or even download the toolbar to enhance your use.

Experience
Tue, 2009-03-17
February 2004 Joseph Pine gave a speech at TED drawing a picture of economic value evolving from commodities to experiences.
The equivalent in computing would probably start with the availability of hardware and certainly end with a gaming experience. Fortunately GNU is making good progress concerning the first steps but gaming experience in the GNU world obviously has less success.
Freegamer never grows tired of digging through the masses of small projects with high hopes but low impact. Still - it is often inspiring to see what people do and it gives me hope to seek for the ultimate game yet to come.
