WebM

Google followed the advice of the FSF and opened their new codec VP8.
But additionally they also created a new fixed video format "WebM" with only ONE possible audio (OGG-Vorbis) and only ONE possible video codec (VP8).
This is a huge boost for HTML5 video and coupled with the fact that google wants to switch youtube (owned by google) to the new format has an even bigger impact on the free web.
Almost all major browsers (you know the exceptions) will very soon understand *.webm files.
Web video ahoy! Flash over board! YAY!

Google fails "not to be evil" very often. But sometimes they seem to be in a good mood and do great stuff for a change:
Release + offer free (OFL not "freeware") fonts for use on your webpage for example.
Check out those great fonts!
