Walking On Eggshells

This student documentary (3 parts about 25min) draws a clear picture of what todays problem with copyright is.

It features different artists and other involved people that explain, from their perspective what is going wrong - and why. If you're thinking about what the future of remixing art should be: watch this!

OSM logo proposal

I'm a big fan of the OpenStreetMap project but I cannot say the same about its current logo. Every time I see it I feel like the great project is misrepresented by a bloated and indistinct clipart. I know that there must be some people that got attached to the current logo (in form of mugs, t-shirts or pure nostalgia), and hope they can share the notion that a new logo is overdue.

I've been working quite some time on a logo relaunch that is flexible and fits any brand relaunch the community might consider in the far or near future.

Here it is!

As you see it uses a free OFL-licensed font to allow easy customization and integration into further material.

Let's see what the community thinks about it - you decide.

We got to do it

Eben Moglen gave an impressive speech about "Freedom in the Cloud" (59min). He envisions a digital future that puts users in control and makes facebook and other social anti-privacy services obsolete. It is a realistic and bottom-up idea that needs to be carried out!

"We got to do it"

Don't be annoyed by the initial camera movement and have a look at other formats of the recording.

Diaspora

Diaspora is a project that aims high: 4 Guys want to establish a super social network! The idea is to let people connect securely and independently through a single interface, making the need for multiple logins at different web services like twitter, facebook or flickr obsolete.

They ask for financial support and promise to release everything under the aGPL - sounds great!

I'm very curious how they plan to face the technical hurdles involved in this undertaking, and especially how much of existing protocols will be implemented (like XMPP or OpenMicroBlogging...)

Very interesting.

Copying Is Not Theft

Nina Paley reminds those who might have forgotten with a short and funny video: "Copying Is Not Theft!".

There are already lots of remixes with different music and the same text!

Free and downloadable formats are available, too.
