Relevance of freedom

I often hear people talking about freedom, GNU, the FSF and many reasons why being too "hardcore" or "negative" is counterproductive.

This is my point of view:

Synfig 0.62.01

There is a new Synfig release waiting for you: 0.62.01

The release number indicates a minor release, but the changes are worth mentioning:

  • proper SVG import
  • transform tool overhaul
  • bugfixes
  • icons
  • new rendering options

Try this free animation tool and start to learn how it works if you didn't yet.

Thank you Synfig team!

LGM videos available

Thanks to river-valley.tv you can now go to grab some popcorn:

The Libre graphics Meeting is over and the videos are online.

It is really nice to see the organizers think about people that were unable to attend the meeting.

THANK YOU!

WebM

Google followed the advice of the FSF and opened their new codec VP8.

But additionally they also created a new fixed video format "WebM" with only ONE possible audio (OGG-Vorbis) and only ONE possible video codec (VP8).

This is a huge boost for HTML5 video and coupled with the fact that google wants to switch youtube (owned by google) to the new format has an even bigger impact on the free web.

Almost all major browsers (you know the exceptions) will very soon understand *.webm files.

Web video ahoy! Flash over board! YAY!

Pretty Lights

Actually I promised to myself not to post music that isn't CC licensed here. But Pretty Lights deserves to be an exception.

There are several albums available for download (NO CREATIVE COMMONS and on a flash page), and I can especially recommend the album "Passing By Behind Your Eyes".

It is an amazingly modern mix of different styles featuring beats that massage your stomach while tickling your ears. I love it.

Maybe you, too - and maybe one day those tracks will even be Creative Commons.
