Paratype PT Sans

Paratype has released the modern and professional typface "PT Sans" under the OFL! It isn't just a really good looking typeface for daily use, but also covers lots of characters and comes along with the variations regular, condensed and caption. Each of those are available as normal, bold, italic and bolditalic.

This is really awesome - the list of really free and open fonts grows constantly!

Linux Outlaws

Have you seen any of the faces above?

No? - Probably because you only heard their "oggcast" recently, and if you didn't maybe it is time to do so. Visit the Linux Outlaws homepage, or see them at their unconference "Oggcamp"!

The outlaws provide you with a weekly news flash about releases and any other kind of news in the FOSS world. And they don't seem to be too serious while they do so.

You should keep an eye on them ;)

Ramen - noodle composing

Mhhh! Noodles - everybody likes them. This tasty variant is pretty fresh (I think it is even "alpha") and enhances your free media experience with a node compositor. Video editing with this new project is available on GNU/Linux and on Mac (Windows seems to be an option for the future). Unfortunately the project license recently changed to a GPL incompatible license; the CDDL, but it is yet another license that is considered to be free.

The software is currently under heavy development but mainly driven by few individuals. Read more about the development or start joining the community - go and "shake" some noodles!

And yes, the name has its origin in the authors culinary preferences :)

Internet is Freedom

Lawrence Lessig one of the main founders of the creative commons gave an insightful speech in front of the Italian Parliament. It is entitled Internet is Freedom [36min] and does very well (as all Lessig speeches do) to convey that point clearly.

What I like so much about Lessig is his ability to address people with different mindsets and still making a good point - without fueling senseless heated discussions. But maybe that's just because I think he is right about what he says :P

Definitely worth watching.
