Use IRC in Jabber
XMPP Transports to ICQ and MSN are easy to find and use. All you need to do is: Fire up a decent jabber client like Gajim or Psi - point the internal disco-browser to some servers, register, be happy.
But not for IRC. You have to search long before find one that actually works fine.
I found one :) So let's save the pain of downloading running and configuring a native IRC client. Here is how it works:
- point your disco-browser to jaim.at
- register with irc.jaim.at
- enter your desired username
- IMPORTANT: change the encoding to:
[{"serverdomain1.com","utf-8"},{"serverdomainX","utf-8"}].
(I made good experience with uft-8 code, but you are free to put in another one) - now just join a normal groupchat like this: IRCroom%IRCserver@irc.jaim.at
And you're done. From now on you can always join a MUC on irc.jaim.at that has the name IRCroom%IRCserver and you'll find yourself chatting to IRC freaks - with your native jabber client ;)
I hope the admin of jaim.at keeps this service freely available until MUC dominates IRC.
